In April I was welcomed by my friend’s family in India. It’s a beautiful country in which I love many aspects, but this short blog post isn’t a travel guide.

My friend and his family are Jain. It’s an ancient religion that promotes non-violence, which translates to a rigorous vegeterianism. I really enjoy their customs (and became myself vegetarian). However, I found out that despite +5M Jains, they don’t have their own emoji. In the religion category for emojis, nothing’s dedicated for Jains.

Which is the reason why I wrote a proposal for the Jain trilok emoji, a symbol officially recognized as the Jain one. This proposal needs to be publicly hosted and available online to then be reviewed by the Unicode consortium.

This blog post mainly serves as hosting this proposal. I am currently hosting an uncompleted version while waiting for some Jain authorities to approve it. I need this in order to maximize the chances of it to be approved. I have until July 2026 to update it, therefore this blog post isn’t definitive.
